Seattle Sounders FC 2-1 Charlotte FC

The Sounders returned home for the first of a run of 5 games at Lumen Field. Visiting was Charlotte FC who were looking to kickstart their away form in their first ever game in Seattle as an expansion franchise.

Seattle would come out firing with early chances from Cristian Roldan, Obed Vargas, and Jordan Morris as the home side would get in behind multiple times with ease.

Charlotte would find their footing and after putting multiple crosses in the box, would find a free kick opportunity just outside the area. Even after an initial save from Stefan Frei, Ben Bender was in the right spot to put it home for 1-0 Charlotte FC in the 21st minute.

Looking for a response goal before half, Seattle would threaten with Cristian Roldan finding space out wide and putting in a dangerous cross that was begging to be finished, unfortunately Jordan Morris glanced it wide of goal.

Seattle would flash a couple more chances on the Charlotte goal before the break, giving the home side belief that an equalizing goal was coming.

The Sounders would come out to start the second half with high pressure on the visitors, looking for that one chance to make the breakthrough.

The visiting side would see out the pressure very well as the game started to slow its pace down with less open play as the second half went on, and frustration started to set in for Seattle.

In the 72nd minute, that chance the Sounders were looking for would come as Alex Roldan would skillfully get the ball on his left foot and whip in a wonderful cross towards Jordan Morris, who would amend his earlier missed chances by heading this one home for 1-1.

Looking for all 3 points, the home side would find their own dangerous free kick outside the box on the right wing, and Nico Lodeiro would look for a training ground move to find Raul Ruidiaz. After having his original shot blocked, Raul would get his own rebound and curled a perfect finish into the top corner to give the Sounders the lead in the 80th minute.

Now with the lead, Seattle would look to see the game out and without much threat on Stefan Frei's goal, they would succeed in doing so, and the Sounders would go into the international break with an important 2-1 victory on home turf.
