General manager Ron Francis and the Seattle Kraken got right to work just several days into the off-season with the shaping of next season's depth, signing defenseman Peetro Seppala to a two-year, entry level contract worth $762,500, average annual value.
Seppala is expected to join the Kraken this fall in training camp after skating in Liiga, Finland's top professional league, where he debuted at 17 years old for KooKoo Kouvala.
Last season, Seppala, 21, put together his strongest campaign with a 29-point season in 57 games, leading the KooKoo's defensemen and ranking 12th among league blueliners in points while scoring eight goals. He also added eight assists in 15 postseason games.
“Peetro is a young defenseman who skates well and has an offensive upside,” said Francis in a team statement.
Seppala suited up in seven games for Team Finland at the 2020 World Junior Championship and earned a gold medal with the program at the U18 level in 2017-18.
Seppala's contract will kick in starting in the 2022-23 season.
