Travis Hunter Sr., the father of Heisman Trophy winner and top NFL prospect Travis Hunter, has been granted permission to attend the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay on Thursday (April 24) amid his probation for drug and gun charges, the Athletic's Amos Morale III reports.
The elder Hunter is serving probation stemming from his arrest during a traffic stop in November 2023, which prohibited him from attending the Heisman Trophy ceremony in December.
“Dad, I love you,” Hunter Jr. said during his Heisman Trophy acceptance speech amid his father's absence. “All the stuff you went through … I did it for you, man. All the times that you didn’t get to see me, or the time you came to see my games. From seeing probably two games in high school to seeing me on TV every weekend and coming to see me, that means so much to me. I know you wanted to be here, and you can’t. But trust me, I got you.”
Hunter Jr. is projected by NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah as the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft and expected to be selected within the first few picks, earning him an invite to the live event at Lambeau Field on Thursday. The 21-year-old was a standout wide receiver and cornerback, playing both positions during the entirety of his collegiate career at Colorado (2023-24) and Jackson State (2022), and was selected as a unanimous All-American in 2024 and a consensus All-American in 2023.
