Fall is finally settled in and Halloween is right around the corner, so that means Spooky Season is in full effect. And what better way to get in the spirit of things than diving deep into tales of apparitions, mysterious urban legends and other stories of all the things that go bump in the night.
Thrillist compiled a list of the "most haunted place" in every state, finding chilling locations like "old state hospitals, murder sites, homes with talking dolls, and hotels [that] are so disturbing, they've served as the setting for some of the most iconic horror movies."
According to the list, the most haunted spot in Washington is Northern State Hospital in Sedro-Woolley, which operated on its own for decades before it was closed in the '70s. There are rumors that past patients still remain, walking the halls long past the end of their earthly life.
Here's what the site had to say about the reportedly most haunted spot in all of Washington:
"The abandoned remains of this old farm was once home to as many as 2,700 patients. The self-sustaining institution ran from 1912 to 1973, complete with a lumber mill, library, greenhouse, bakery, canning facilities, and other amenities. Now it's essentially a ghost town. Remnants of the buildings are said to be haunted by patients who died during transorbital lobotomies. Some buildings are still in use and off-limits, but you can view the shells of others and an adjacent cemetery at any time."
