Gameday: 12th Man News & Notes

Gregg Bell (Tacoma News Tribune) made his daily visit to give the 12th Man News and today was no different; so here's what you missed:

Injury Updates: Ken Walker had a procedure to remove something, although exactly what it was has been kept under wraps. Pete did say it was not a core muscle injury, but that's all we know for now. The bottom line, Gregg says, is that the Seahawks think he will be ready for the season opener against the Broncos, but he will not play tonight and Rashaad Penny is expected to sit out as well. Gregg used the words "bubble wrap" when discussing how the Hawks are trying to protect Penny. Expect to see Travis Homer, DeeJay Dallas tonight.

What about DeeJay Dallas? They want him to remain as a 3rd down/pass catcher/pass blocker and the same goes for Homer as well. That's the plan anyway, with Penny and Walker as 1 and 1a.

So, do we have a healthy running back to start opening day? Travis Homer is healthy and had a solid outing in preseason game 1. If this is as temporary as Carroll is saying, we should be fairly healthy by September 12th.

Will Drew Lock get a chance to start with the #1's next week at the Cowboys? That's the big question according to Gregg. Usually the last preseason game is all non-starters, but since Lock is missing out on his chance this week (COVID), he may get that chance in Dallas.

Things to watch for tonight: Is Abe Lucas starting at right tackle? Is Tariq Woolen starting in the backfield? Will Boye Mafe have a repeat performance of last week in Pittsburgh?

We should get our first look at J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, the wide receiver we got from the Eagles in exchange for Ugo Amadi.

Jordyn Brooks should be on the field starting at linebacker. Quandre Diggs should also play a bit. Still no Jamal Adams.

More reps for Al Woods and Shelby Harris.

QB snaps should be split between Smith and Eason with Eason getting most of the 2nd half snaps. There is a chance the starters will come back after half for the 1st drive to make halftime adjustments, so Geno might be back out there to start Q3.

Sidney Jones has returned to practice, so he should be on the left with Woolen on the right.

Charles Cross and Abe Lucas both to start at tackle and it's looking more and more like the two rookies will start the regular season as well.

Boye Mafe had 2 sacks in Pittsburgh, can he be more of an every day, every down linebacker? For now he remains more situational.

Look for the split reps between Sidney Jones and Coby Bryant.

Not expected to play tonight:

Drew Lock, Rashad Penny, Tre Brown, Ken Walker, Artie Burns
