Mitchell Tenpenny finally debuted his new 8-track EP, and the project was a longtime coming. The country singer-songwriter said The Low Light Sessions aims to take fans on a journey through the last several years of his life with stories he expects listeners will find relatable. The new collection includes reflections of who Tenpenny was years ago and progressing to reflect his life now, and includes a track written for his now-fiancée Meghan Patrick.
“‘The Low Light Sessions’ has been a project I’ve dreamed of doing for a long time,” Tenpenny said in a press release announcing the new EP. “I hope it takes you on a cinematic journey of the last six years of my life. I hope everyone can find their story in mine.”
One of those songs is “Horseshoes and Hand Grenades,” the first track on the EP. Tenpenny shared on Instagram on Friday (April 15): “This song is about getting so close to something but not actually getting it. Working hard but possibly never attaining it. If this is something you’ve been through I hope this song helps you feel less alone. Y’all check out the official video of ‘Horseshoes and Hand Grenades’ out now off The Low Light Sessions EP!”
Tenpenny also announced that he’ll host a TikTok Live release party at 7:30 p.m. ET, playing some of the songs and answering fan questions about the new record.
