Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll updates injuries after loss to Rams

Seattle Seahawks v Los Angeles Rams

RENTON -- The Seahawks are a banged up football without a lot of time to get healthy before Thursday night's game against the Arizona Cardinals.

The team had six players miss Sunday's loss to the Los Angeles Rams due to injuries and had at least a half dozen more exit the game with issues in need of monitoring this week. The team did not practice on Monday but had to submit an estimated practice report. That report had 15 players either not practicing or limited with wide receiver Tyler Lockett being a new addition.

With Lockett's being the newest injury to come to light, let's begin there.

Head coach Pete Carroll said that Lockett had his new evaluated and they don't believe the issue to be a significant one for the time being.

"Yeah, he's got a bit of a knee sprain in general," Carroll said. "He's already had it checked out, and MRI'd and all that kind of stuff. So he's a little bit discomfort, a little bit swelling today. But it's not a serious knee injury so we'll look to see how he does day-to-day and take it until Thursday."

The center position is of note as well as starter Ethan Pocic missed Sunday's game with a concussion and has not yet cleared concussion protocol to return to the field. Meanwhile, backup Kyle Fuller sustained a high-ankle sprain against the Rams, but finished the game despite the injury.

"Kyle did fine yesterday," Carroll said of Fuller's play. He hurt his ankle and he's gonna be hobbling a little bit today to get back for this week, we think he can make it back, but he did get banged a little bit and he just toughed it out and did a really nice job of hanging in there. I thought we did as good a job as we've ever done against Aaron. He's an incredible player and didn't get the marks that he normally gets. It didn't show up in the end results because they still got sacked a few times but he had a lot to do with that."

If Fuller is unable to play this week against the Cardinals, Jamarco Jones is the third-string center with Phil Haynes also capable of handling the snaps. Haynes is set to return from injured reserve this week, likely in the place of cornerback Neiko Thorpe.

Thorpe reaggravated a core muscle/sports hernia issue in Sunday's game and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

"He will not make it back. Neiko's not going to make it back unfortunately," Carroll said.

At running back, Carroll was optimistic about the chances they could get at least one piece back in the lineup this week. Carlos Hyde is working back from a hamstring strain while Chris Carson is dealing with a foot sprain. Both injuries happened in the first meeting against the Cardinals last month.

"I'm told that Carlos is going to go today in our work. Chris is working to get back. He's trying to make it. Carlos is a little bit ahead of him now and so we'll see how it goes. I can't tell you what's going to happen Thursday night yet but both those guys are trying hard this week to get back."

"I expect one of those guys, I think Carlos is going to make it for this week and we'll see about Chris. That'll help us out. But in the meantime, you know, I thought that we got really good play out of Alex (Collins). I thought he looked good. We can use him more and find more ways to make sure that he's a factor."

Safety Jamal Adams said after the game he absolutely intended on playing against the Cardinals despite a shoulder injury sustained against the Rams. Adams played the rest of the game despite being injured early in the first quarter.

"He says he's playing, he's ready to go," Carroll said. "He got banged up pretty good. He played really with one arm for the most part in the game and did a marvelous job of getting through it. There was a couple plays he couldn't make that he wishes you could have. But it was just because of his arm, or his shoulder. He played really hard and got after."

Cornerback Shaquill Griffin is still trying to return from a hamstring strain sustained in the first meeting against Arizona as well. Carroll said he has worked his way through the concussion portion of his injury absence.

"We'll get out on the field today, it's first time I'll get a chance to see him, see how far he's come. It's not clear yet that he's like he's back. We got to wait and see what happens the next couple days," Carroll said.

Guard Mike Iupati was listed as a full participant for the team's estimated workout on Monday, which is a good sign after he left the game on Sunday with an injury. Iupati's backup, Jordan Simmons, also exited the game with a strained calf and he would not have practiced on Monday.
