Seahawks reportedly sign Barkevious Mingo; DeShawn Shead signs with Lions

The Seattle Seahawks have reportedly made their first addition to the roster through free agency.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, the Seahawks are signing linebacker Barkevious Mingo to a two-year contract worth $6.8 million.

The full contract gives Mingo $3.2 million guaranteed in the form of a $2.2 million signing bonus and a $1 million base salary for 2018 that is fully guaranteed. It also carries $300,000 in per game roster bonuses each season and a $3 million base salary in 2019. It also includes incentives for playing time, sacks and being named to the Pro Bowl.

Mingo was the No. 6 overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. He's played in 78 of 80 possible games over five seasons with Cleveland, New England and Indianapolis, though he's only started 22 games over that span.

Mingo could fill a role similar to that of Bruce Irvin in Seattle. He will likely play a hybrid role with the Seahawks as a strong-side linebacker option and rotational pass rusher. He has nine sacks in five season, but five of those came as a rookie with the Browns.

Mingo had 47 tackles with two sacks, three forced fumbles and two passes defended last year with the Colts.

While Seattle made an addition in Mingo, they also saw some of their unrestricted free agents sign elsewhere.

Cornerback DeShawn Shead signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday reportedly worth $3.5 million with incentives that could increase the deal to $6.5 million.

Additionally, tight end Jimmy Graham (Green Bay) and wide receiver Paul Richardson (Washington) agreed to deals with other teams. Tight end Luke Willson is also visiting the Carolina Panthers Wednesday night as he explores his options on the market.

Seattle is also reportedly interested in free agent tight ends Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Ed Dickson, and wide receiver Jordy Nelson.
